Three steps.

  1. 1

    Install

On Windows, the per-user installer needs no admin password and adds desktop and Start Menu shortcuts without touching system folders. On Linux, mark the AppImage executable with chmod +x, then run it in place or use its --install command for user-scoped desktop integration.

FFB Probe is published by Rohsam Inc. Stable Windows releases are signed. Before running the installer, confirm Windows shows Rohsam Inc. as the publisher and that the SHA-256 matches the value above. A freshly signed release can still show a SmartScreen reputation warning; continue only if both checks pass.

  2. 2

    Plug in your stick

USB or a USB gameport adapter. Make sure it's powered. Close simulators and controller tools that might already own the device, such as MSFS, DCS, X-Plane, FFB-Bridge, MOZA Cockpit, Brunner's tools or Logitech G HUB; the app warns you about the ones it recognises. A Brunner base can stay in CLS2Sim mode, because the app offers to switch it.

  3. 3

    Run, review, then share

The wizard takes a few minutes. After the run you can open the HTML report, inspect the JSON payload, and share only if you're comfortable sending it.

Release notes

See everything that changed in v1.1.2, including update behavior and platform-specific install details.

Automatic updates

The GUI reads a small stable-release manifest at startup. It sends no install ID, current-version query, device information, or probe results; offline and malformed responses stay silent.

Updates are never offered during a run and install only with your consent. The downloads here are stable releases; a stable install is only offered stable updates, and a beta build is offered newer betas and the stable release that supersedes them.

Linux permissions

Live effects need read/write access to the joystick's /dev/input/event* node; Brunner and MOZA bases also need their configuration interface or settings port. The docs include a temporary test command and per-device udev rules.

Release manifest

Machine-readable version, filenames, sizes, and SHA-256 hashes.

System requirements

What you need

  • Windows 10 or later for the DirectInput live-effect wizard, or Linux x64 for the evdev AppImage.
  • A force-feedback joystick or flight base with power connected and room to move.
  • No .NET install required. Release binaries are self-contained.
  • Linux input permissions may be needed for live effects through /dev/input/event*.
  • No automatic upload. Local reports are written whether or not you share anything later.

Run the probe. It takes a few minutes.

The wizard checks the stick, plays live effects, records what you felt, and writes local report files you can inspect before sharing.
